«To 'tone up' you need light weights and lots of reps»
False
What the evidence says
The 'tone' you see is muscle with little fat on top. There is no type of training that 'defines' without building muscle. You gain muscle by training with demanding loads (6–15 reps at 0–3 RIR) and you look more defined by losing fat through your diet. Lots of reps with minimal weight barely provide a stimulus.
How settled this is
Strong consensus: the definition is hypertrophy + a calorie deficit, not a magic rep range.
